Magic Loop Method is my favorite method to knit in the round. Instead of using multiple double-pointed needles, this method only requires a pair of circular needles. I love using this method to knit items like socks, mason jar covers, wine glass cozie, Easter Eggs…etc. I frequently use this method along with Emily Ocker’s Circular Cast On. It may look complicated at first, but it is easy and reduces the headache of juggling multiple DPNs.

How to knit Magic Loop Method?

It is probably easier to watch the video than read through the instructions with pictures.

Here is the tutorial video 👇👇 (youtube video 853 x 480)

Following is a brief direction with some pictures.

First, make sure you have circular needles with a long cable since this method will require extra length.

1: Cast On normally onto the circular needles

2. Slide stitches from the needle to the cable. Divide stitches in half by bending and pulling the cable.

3. Transfer stitches onto needles. Bring the needle tips to the right and the cable on your left. The working yarn should be on the back needle.

4. Slide out the back needle toward the right. All the stitches on the needle are now moved onto the cable, and the needle is empty. Use the needle to work on the stitches on the front needle.

5. Once all the stitches on the front needle are worked, it becomes an empty needle. Drop the needle.

6. Turn the work (Needle tip to face toward the right again), and pull the cable to bring stitches onto the empty needle.

7. Back to the starting position (Needle tips are facing right, the cable on the left, and the working yarn is on the back needle).

Repeat these steps to knit in the round.
